Our Training Philosophy
At Canine Hilton, our Certified Canine trainer and Behavioral Specialist, Tiffany McCalla, wants to personalize your training experience and give you what you need to get your relationship with your dog on the right track. Tiffany offers obedience training, competitive obedience, agility, service dog work, companion gun dog training, and adult dog and puppy temperament testing. We can provide training at our facility while your dog boards with us or private lessons at the kennel or in your home. We do not believe there is only one method of training that works for every dog and owner, so the methods we use will depend on your training philosophy, goals, and what works best with your dog. We offer obedience training emphasizing positive reinforcement with a variety of training tools that we use to teach your dog the manners you desire and help you with reinforcing those behaviors. When we first meet with you, we will get information about what your needs are to improve your dog's behavior with your family, when friends come to visit, when you take your dog in public; and then give you our recommendations for what is going to work best with your dog. We also work with anxiety issues your dog may be experiencing and some aggression issues if the dog is not a threat to human beings. We will recommend equipment for you to use with your pet and can provide the equipment for you to purchase in our retail store at reasonable prices.
Board and Train
We know you sometimes need help getting started with training and the board and train program allows us to jump-start your training or just brush up on the basics. Your trainer will meet with you at the beginning of your dog's stay to go over what will be focused on during the training. Then we will meet with you again at drop off to show you what we have worked on and have you practice. Training is not complete without everyone at home following through knowing how to keep up the new rules. If you board and train for more than 10 days we will throw in another meeting with the trainer to keep your training going. Training at the kennel is currently only offered Monday through Friday.
Privates
If you would prefer to learn how to train your dog and do more of the foundation work yourself, we offer private lessons either at Canine Hilton, your house, or out in public to work on distractions. We highly encourage board and train graduates to keep the learning going using private lessons so that we can help you follow through with the training and practice in real life situations that come up. Private lessons are also a great option if you have multiple dogs and want to keep costs down. In the private lessons we will teach you how to train your dog and practice setting up scenarios to practice real life situations.
